Dennis Z. Kuo, MD, MHS, FAAP is the Purcell Family Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center/Golisano Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Kuo has a longstanding interest in the care of children with disabilities and medical complexity, defining family-identified needs and designing systems of care needed to address their health and development life course needs.  Dr. Kuo was a Steering Committee member for the Maternal and Child Health Bureau’s Blueprint for Change for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs, and he is the Immediate Past Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Children with Disabilities.

Morgan Kowalski is NICU Parent of Thomas born at 25&1, now age 6. She is the Program Manager of the Family-Centered Care Taskforce which seeks to support NICUs as they begin or strengthen FCC in their units. She has served in the Family Connection Program at her local NICU since 2020 and helped implement their Small Baby Unit. She is a Vermont Oxford Network Family Partner and serves in the American Academy of Pediatrics’ FamilY Partnership Network.

Session Overview

Participants will gain practical strategies and invaluable insights into the challenges that families and caregivers encounter when navigating educational, medical, and disability systems. The session will offer perspectives from both the physician and caregiver, highlighting collaborative approaches to enhancing the partnership between caregivers and healthcare teams in delivering comprehensive care for children with complex health conditions.

A dedicated Q&A segment will follow the presentation, allowing ample time for participants to engage and ask questions.
